Dr. Aderomola Adeola is a lawyer with expertise in the field of public international law and with specific interests in technology, intellectual property, human rights, and migration governance. She holds a Masters from the Harvard Law School and also has a PhD from the University of Pretoria. She has published extensively in the field of international law and has worked and taught in South Africa, Kenya, and Canada.

Erick Fuentes
Erick Fuentes is a mechatronics engineer specializing in industrial automation, currently completing a master's degree in Industry 4.0. His career has focused on integrating advanced technologies into industry, with a strong emphasis on areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and additive manufacturing. With extensive experience in IoT and automation projects, he has been a frequent speaker at technology events, sharing his expertise on critical topics such as 3D printing, AI, and cybersecurity—fields in which he has been actively involved since the onset of the pandemic.

Jane Miller OBE was appointed British High Commissioner to Guyana, Ambassador to CARICOM, and non-resident Ambassador to Suriname in July 2021. She has been with the UK Government since 1994, serving in various capacities both in London and overseas, including in Tanzania, Nigeria, Zambia, and South Africa. Initially starting her career in the health sector, Jane transitioned into management and leadership roles over the past 15 years.

René van Nes is a European Union career diplomat with over 20 years’ experience in European Union institutions. He was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. René started his international career in 1991 in Suriname, where he contributed to the country’s first Structural Adjustment Programme. He is delighted to be back in the region as Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Guyana and Suriname, also with responsibility for Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Saint-Barthélemy, St Eustatius and St Maarten.

H.E. Mr René VAN NES

René van Nes is a European Union career diplomat with over 20 years’ experience in European Union institutions. He was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. René started his international career in 1991 in Suriname, where he contributed to the country’s first Structural Adjustment Programme. He is delighted to be back in the region as Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Guyana and Suriname, also with responsibility for Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Saint-Barthélemy, St Eustatius and St Maarten. Before coming to Guyana, he worked on conflict prevention and peace mediation in the EU’s External Action Service. His passion for dialogue and finding peaceful solutions was, among others, created during the years he was coordinator of the EU’s Libya team. As Dutch Special Envoy, he represented the Dutch government during the Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul (2016). René holds a master’s degree in macroeconomics from the Free University of Amsterdam with a specialisation in public finance and in development economics. He served as head of the economic sections in EU Delegations in Ethiopia and Tanzania. Before his career with the European Union, he worked in the private sector as a partner and consultant in a research-based consultancy firm. He started his career in the Dutch Ministry of Finance in 1988. René is married to Jeannette van Bodegraven, who joined him in Guyana. They have two sons who both study in the Netherlands. René is passionate about politics and hiking.

Erick Fuentes

With extensive experience in IoT and automation projects, he has been a frequent speaker at technology events, sharing his expertise on critical topics such as 3D printing, AI, and cybersecurity—fields in which he has been actively involved since the onset of the pandemic. In his current role as an Innovation Manager at a university, Erick leads projects that bridge the gap between industry and academia, fostering the transfer of knowledge and technology. He has also chaired the research committee in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where he has been instrumental in driving technological innovation in the region. As a co-founder of a food tech company, Erick is revolutionizing the food industry by focusing on more organic and natural products, blending his passion for technology with a commitment to sustainability. Additionally, he is involved in a business and entrepreneurship accelerator, where he contributes to the growth of new ventures. He is also dedicated to educating the next generation through an academy that teaches robotics and management methodologies to children. Currently, Erick is finishing his book on Artificial Intelligence for Businesses, which takes a practical, enterprise-focused approach. His research includes investigating how IoT devices are being compromised by cyberattacks, exposing the ease with which data can be extracted from companies using such technologies. Furthermore, Erick has led educational projects in conflict zones, bringing technology to those in need, underscoring his dedication to social impact and innovation.

Jane Miller OBE was appointed British High Commissioner to Guyana, Ambassador to CARICOM, and non-resident Ambassador to Suriname in July 2021. She has been with the UK Government since 1994, serving in various capacities both in London and overseas, including in Tanzania, Nigeria, Zambia, and South Africa. Initially starting her career in the health sector, Jane transitioned into management and leadership roles over the past 15 years. Her career has been largely focused on leading development programs across Africa, for which she was honored with an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the 2014 New Year’s Honours for her service to Africa. Jane is widely recognized for her advocacy of human rights, particularly in areas such as gender equality, mental health, disability rights, youth empowerment, LGBT issues, and efforts to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). In Guyana, she has spearheaded initiatives in trade and the promotion of British business, including the establishment of a British Chamber of Commerce. Her leadership has extended to addressing environmental issues, sustainable forestry, and climate change throughout the Caribbean. Additionally, she has been active in promoting democracy, good governance, and human rights across the region. We are thrilled to have Jane Miller OBE as a distinguished speaker at CyberTech Caribbean 2024, where she will share her wealth of experience and insights on topics related to cybersecurity, governance, and sustainable development. Her commitment to human rights and her leadership in driving positive change make her an inspiring voice for the Caribbean region as we explore innovative solutions for a safer digital future.
